EXCERPT “Why are you acting like four years ago didn’t happen?” I snap, unable to hold back my anger any longer. “Do you really think I can act like it didn’t happen? I’ve been living it every goddamn day.” “And I haven’t?” I cry, outraged. “You’re the one who did this to us, Logan. Not the other way around.” His expression softens. “Don’t you understand why I did it?” “Yeah, I understand perfectly— you didn’t trust me.” “Trust had nothing to do with it,” he denies heatedly. “I knew you would stay, I knew you would stick it out with me and I didn’t want that for you, Anna. My life was fucking over, I wasn’t going to ruin yours, too.” “It wasn’t your choice to make! It was mine and you stole it from me.” My breath hitches as tears helplessly begin to fall. “I went back to that prison every weekend for two months and you never came out. You just left me waiting there like a fool.” Every word falls on an agonized sob, my pain resonating on his face. “Now you have the audacity to question me about my life while keeping yours a secret. Well, fuck you!” Ripping out of his grasp, I run into my dorm, refusing to let him see more of the pain I still harbor deep inside.
